Meet Magento UK 2020

Back at it

It felt great to be back on the tools, back doing what we love and what we’re great at… producing world-class events!

Creating an event for over 1000 people is nothing new for us but delivering it to a global audience with 37 speakers, presenting from all around the world, certainly got the heart racing last week.

That nervous energy, the anticipation, the sick feeling in your stomach… it all came rushing back. It felt like 2003 all over again, when we did our very first event. One thing was clear though, I loved it and I’d missed it- I felt like John Motson coming back out of retirement!

In a week where the shops had opened, the Premier League was back and the possibility of our pubs re-opening was around the corner, it felt like we were starting to get back to normal. I felt blessed, and for a small part of the team working on this event, we were back in the office doing what we do best.

And it’s live…

In a team of six people, I was clearly the “runner” for the day, given jobs with the least responsibility… making the brews, ordering the pizza, and literally moving the slides on for one of the speakers who didn’t feel comfortable using the remote slide presenter. The adrenalin was back though and for that short, jam-packed window from 08:000 until 16:00, we escaped from the madness of the real world. We were in the zone.

It was great to be in the thick of it, watching the team take it all in their stride as they calmly explained to each individual speaker how the process would work. From the lobby area through to the backstage and live production, everything was under control. The speakers beamed out live to this global audience.

A proud moment

The level of planning and hard work that had gone into this production was phenomenal. It made me extremely proud just to be part of it. Not only was the online concept of the event ground-breaking for our client, it was equally so for XSEM. The best part of it all was that we managed to help raise over £80,000 for charity in the process.

Who knows when we will be back to “normal” but let’s hope the progress continues and we can all be back doing what we all love to do as soon as is possible, whatever that may be.
