EBOR MEET
YORK RACECOURSE, AUG 17 TUE - AUG 20 FRI
Horse racing has taken place in York since Roman times, and this is your chance to join a grand tradition. Whilst the original racecourse, on its current site, was opened in 1730, there has been significant redevelopment of the ground over the years, culminating in the opening of the magnificent Ebor Stand in 2003. York is now one of the premier tracks in Europe, having recently won the Flat Racecourse of the Year Award, and also finishing top in The Times' survey of British racecourses.
The Ebor Festival, which takes place in August is the jewel in York's crown. The blend of the very best horses with a sense of tradition and style make it the centrepiece of many a sporting and social calendar. Everyday has something different to offer the discerning race-goer, from richest race in the York Calendar (£650,000 Juddmonte International) on Tuesday, to Ladies Day on Thursday. The totesport Ebor handicap, one of the most famous races of the Festival was first run in 1843 and is now the feature race on the Wednesday of the meeting.
